The Flintstones - They're Living In Gran Canaria

The world of Fred Flintstone is not as far removed from reality as we might think. William Hanna and Joseph Barbera created the popular animation series and cartoon The Flintstones, in which Fred gets some relief from the ardours of stone age world by playing a round of golf. He also drives an automobile. And when Fred drops cooking oil on his tie, he can always get it cleaned in a washing machine.

We would not expect cavemen to drive an automobile. However, that is exactly what present-day cavemen do. Their most frequent expression is not Yabba-Dabba-Doo! But Buenos dias, since these cavepeople are Spaniards living in Gran Canaria, a popular tourist island where millions of Europeans fly each year to escape the rigours of winter.

Some of the cavepeople live in a village called Guayadeque. These 21st century Flintstones drive automobiles and keep them in cave garages. They have electric lights and modern appliances in their homes they have made for themselves in caves.

These cavepeople are descendants of the Guanches, an ethnic group of tall, blond, blue-eyed people who have lived in the Canary isles since around 500 B.C. With the coming of the Spaniards in the 15th century A.D., many Guanches were killed by the invaders but some remained and most of them intermarried with the Spaniards.

The Guanches were by no means primitive. While their islands lacked metals and they had to make stone tools, their pottery and even clothing resemble those of the Graeco-Roman cultures. They mummified their dead like the Egyptians and performed surgical operations, for instance trepanation, or the drilling of a hole in the skull as a proposed remedy for some illnesses.

It seems that we have been conditioned to think that cavepeople are primitive. We would expect them to have become extinct hundreds of thousands of years ago. We would definitely not expect cavemen to use their leisure time on a golf course. The popularity of the Flintstones is probably due to it breaking this thinking that is obviously based on the evolution model.

However, the true history of our planet shows that the world of Fred Flintstone is closer to reality than the popular explanation of caveman culture. Even today, cavemen and urban dwellers live side by side and probably even play golf together.

It is good to remember that the Bible also talks about people who lived in caves. For instance, Abraham's grandson Lot lived temporarily in a cave with his daughters after their escape from Sodom about four thousand years ago (Genesis 19:30).

Cooker Hood Filter - Truly Important Part of the Kitchen

Cooker hood filters are the things that are located over your stove in your kitchen that are often taken for granted, even though they are a truly important part of every home and kitchen. Cooker hoods allow you to break up odors, get rid of smoke and even shine some light on your stove when necessary. If you don't have a one yet, it's never too late to invest in cooker hood filters.

Although you may not use the fan on yours every day, chances are that if you cook at home you probably use it at least once a week. Whenever the steam builds up as you boil your pasta or the water from your rice boils over it is instinctive to clear the air by flipping on the fan above your stove to clear out the smell, steam and smoke that can occur while cooking. These filters allow your ventilation system to work at the best of it's ability so you can keep your home smelling great even when your cooking doesn't.

Your manual should tell you what size and type of filters are compatible with it. If you don't have access to the manual, the hood or filter itself will often have measurements and information on it that is beneficial. Regularly replacing the filter in the hood over your oven will keep it running properly and will ensure that the air cycling out of it is free of whatever odors may have been it before being filtered.

If you are looking for filters for commercial use or if you cook a lot of strong smelling foods, then making an investment in a charcoal filter may be worth your time and effort. These types of filters are great for controlling strong odors and are necessary for any type of hood system that doesn't cycle the air out of your living space. If your hood just filters the air and then releases it back into your house, a cooker hood charcoal filter will provide you with the best results.

Cooker hood grease filters are another option, and some charcoal filters actually double as grease filters as well. Grease filters offer the extra benefit of filtering greasy vapors out of the air as they float up from your stove top and stopping them from being blown back into your breathing air by your oven's hood. It can decrease the amount of allergens and irritants in your home and will help keep your air clean and healthy.

Cleaning your cooker hood and replacing your filter regularly will keep your home and kitchen in tip top shape even when the things cooking on the stove don't wind up in pristine condition. While the cooker hood in your home may be something you take for granted, you can easily keep the air in your home cleaner and fresher by remembering to regularly change your cooker hood filters.

Do you need a new cooker hood filter? Go to this site to find out more information on their uses and where to get them.

A Brief Overview of the Kitchen Extractor Fan

The kitchen extractor fan, also widely known as a cooker hood, is typically a machine that is designed to draw up fumes, pollutants, and airborne grease to keep the air in your home clean and healthy. This is especially important for enclosed areas and smaller apartments as it is not good to breathe polluted air and vapors. In most cases these machines are installed directly over top of your oven so it can more efficiently draw up the polluted air from the source. They contain internal filters so that they can provide proper kitchen ventilation and recirculate cleaner air throughout your home.

The most popular style of kitchen extractor fan uses ducts in order to draw out the polluted air from the inside of the home and dispel it on the outside. This is the preferred model type since it is the most efficient for removing air completely. There is another option available that does not use ducts for the kitchen ventilation and instead uses a filter to clean the stale air and then recirculate it throughout the home. This is not as efficient as the ducted type, but some individuals may have to settle for it due to budget or space constraints.

One problem that some individuals may have is that their kitchen space is too small for them to install a full cooker hood, so in cases such as this an island type of kitchen extractor fan can be used. It will typically be installed in the center of the room. It is difficult for this type to be connected to duct work, so they will typically use the charcoal filters. There are some however that do feature a chimney that can draw out the stale air to the outside.

Besides residential homes, it is very important for professional structures such as restaurants to have a kitchen extractor fan installed as well. These models are usually powerful because they will have to draw out the smoke and steam from a much larger area and at a faster speed. This makes work a lot easier for the kitchen staff that will be spending a large amount of time in this confined area. The two most popular styles are the axial and the centrifugal. Both are excellent, but the centrifugal type is more powerful and can carry out the polluted air over a longer stretch of duct work.

Whichever model of kitchen extractor fan you eventually choose, it is important that you not try to save money by choosing a poorly constructed model. This is a sensitive piece of equipment that you will want to last for awhile. A decent machine will usually cost you between $400 and $2,500 but there are some that are much more expensive than this, even as high as $20,000 in some cases.

Can You Park Your RV at Your Home in Your New Neighborhood?

You own a Recreational Vehicle and you need to be able to park it and hope to park it at your own home. In the Phoenix area as well as across the country more and more areas will restrict you from parking your RV or other vehicles that are too tall for a garage and would stick up above the fence line when parking it in your backyard. What can you do?

Your choices are limited; you can buy a home that does not have an HOA that restricts the use of parking your Recreational Vehicle at the property. There are a few HOAS's around that some of the lots are large and actually allow the owner to park and store these vehicles at their property although they have an HOA. You definitely need to check those conditions prior to purchasing a home with a large lot but I know of a few in the Gilbert area that some of the lots are larger and they are allowed these privileges. You can buy a home that sits on a county island and is free from an HOA rules. When considering whether or not to buy a home that sits on a county island be sure you check everything including whether you have fire and other city services on your property. Believe it or not, many of these properties are excluded from the cities services and if you had an emergency such as a fire you may not have the fire department showing up to put out the fire.

Some of these county islands are getting incorporated or annexed into the city and getting the city services that they need. It is up to the buyer to check although if the seller is involved in the sale you should get a "Sellers Property Disclosure Statement" and that area of this form should be filled out completely by the seller. With so many homes being sold as "short sales" and "bank owned" you may not get this disclosure so be sure you check everything out first.

If you choose to buy a home within an area that has restrictions against parking and storing your recreational vehicle or other type of vehicle that is visible you will need to find an alternative parking area for your RV. There are several companies in and around the entire Phoenix area that you can park and store your recreational vehicle. Obviously, the pricing varies for rental storage or parking fees and they generally are charged on a monthly or a yearly basis.

Arizona does have plenty of campgrounds, lakes and mountains to explore and many people love to do their traveling in their own recreational vehicle. Just be sure when either buying a new recreational vehicle or first moving to the area and looking for a home where you can park your RV that you look into all the rules and regulations or your alternatives to where to park your vehicle. Enjoy Arizona's great outdoors and your recreational vehicle!
